Pittsylvania County supervisors adopted an ordinance on June 17 authorizing the payment of a one-time 1.5% bonus to eligible full‑time employees of the Pittsylvania County Department of Social Services, in accordance with the Virginia General Assembly and the FY2026 state budget. County staff said the bonus is fully funded by the Commonwealth and requires a local ordinance to permit payment.
County staff cited Code of Virginia §15.2-1508 as the provision under which the locality may adopt an ordinance to allow the payment. Staff emphasized no local funds are required; the bonus will be paid from state allocations in the FY2026 budget.
The board voted unanimously to adopt the ordinance after a brief public hearing; no public speakers spoke in opposition and staff reported no additional local funding obligation.
Clerk records will reflect the ordinance number (2025-06-01) as adopted and staff will implement the payments according to state guidance once payroll mechanics are finalized.
