Park County solid-waste operations report: equipment maintenance, new compactor and truck on the way

Park County Solid Waste staff reported maintenance and equipment updates at the May 22 board meeting, including $31,000 spent to repair an existing front-load truck and a new roll-up truck scheduled to arrive in July.
Staff said the county performed work on the old front-load truck to make it safe and operable, then planned to sell the oldest front-load unit in the coming months. Staff called the $31,000 repair necessary to keep daily collection service running.
The department also reported that a second compactor is being installed at the county transfer station. Staff said the second compactor will not be cycled constantly but will remove the single point of failure risk if the primary compactor goes out of service.
Operations staff described ongoing problems with illegal dumping at remote collection sites. A recent volunteer cleanup removed about 30 bags from the Chico site, but staff said the site returned to a similar state shortly afterward. Staff reported that irregular operations at the City of Livingston transfer station, including closures when trailers were unavailable, are increasing pressure on county sites.
No formal board actions were taken on equipment procurement at the meeting, though staff said the new roll-up truck and compactor will be incorporated into operational planning and budget documents.
