Council approves intent to award contract for 150‑horsepower irrigation pump project

City staff asked the Prineville City Council to approve an intent to award the contract for electrical work and shelter installation serving a new 150‑horsepower irrigation pump tied to a diversion off the People’s Ditch. Public Works Director and Assistant City Manager Casey Kiser told the council the diversion will provide a secondary irrigation option in summer when river levels fall.
Kiser reported four responsive bidders and identified Central Oregon Electric as the apparent low bidder with a bid of $99,883. In staff remarks on the record there was an inconsistent line that referenced Central Oregon Electric with a larger figure; during council action, a council member moved to approve the intent to award in the amount of $99,883 and another council member seconded. The motion passed and staff recorded the motion as carried.
Staff said the intent-to-award authorization will allow the city to proceed with contracting for the electrical line, shelter and associated installation work to serve the new diversion system. Council did not take other procurement or funding decisions beyond approving the intent to award at the May 13 meeting.
