Steve Waring, executive director of the Parks and Recreation District, described the playground plan as completing the park’s overall play footprint and noted accessibility features such as a zip line with adaptive harnesses and poured‑in‑place surfacing. Waring said the district has secured in‑kind and monetary commitments from local contractors and community donors and is pursuing a larger 60/40 state matching grant next year; the foundation seeks to complete work this year if possible but requested flexibility to apply for the larger grant next cycle if needed.
Council discussion emphasized community need for additional indoor and outdoor recreation space. A councilor moved to approve the $10,000 contribution; the motion was seconded and passed on a unanimous voice vote. Council President Huffleman said staff will inform the foundation and that staff will continue to track and update on grant application status.
