Council suspends public hearing on Republic Services rate request until June 10

Council members opened a public hearing on a Republic Services rate increase at the May 13 meeting and then voted to suspend the hearing and resume it at the city’s next regular meeting on June 10.
Council members discussed postponing the presentation so Councilman Shane Howard, who had expressed interest in the matter, could attend. City attorney Jared Reed advised that because the matter had been advertised as a public hearing the council could either take testimony tonight or continue the hearing to a specified date. A council member moved to postpone and another seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously and the hearing was continued to the June 10 meeting.
No testimony was taken at the May 13 meeting after the council voted to suspend the hearing. City attorney Reed and staff confirmed that the hearing will be resumed and re‑advertised to reflect the new date.
