"This item was approved by the Metropolitan Planning Organization Board, the Transportation Policy Board," a city official said, and the action will allow the city to take the next step in applying for federal transit funds. Taylor, identified at the meeting as the transportation planner for the Chisholm Trail MPO, told commissioners she will provide quarterly updates to the commission.
City staff explained the procedural reason for the change: once the area's population exceeded 50,000, the city was classified as urban and needed to either join an MPO or form its own. The city formed the Chisholm Trail MPO and staff said moving to federal transit funding is a multi-step process that this acceptance advances.
A motion to approve the acceptance and authorize execution of related documents passed 7 to 0.
