Bourbon County names five to new budget advisory committee

The Bourbon County Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday appointed five residents to the county’s new budget advisory committee and charged a commissioner appointee with assembling the group.
Commissioners formally named Greg Motley, Carolyn Senn, Katie Casper, Marla Heckman and Josh Jones to the advisory body. Commissioner David moved the slate and it was seconded and approved by roll call.
Motley, already informally designated to attend budget hearings, will “report to the commission and...bring everybody together,” a motion the board approved. The commissioners said they want the panel to advise on county spending and potential efficiencies as staff and the commission prepare budgets.
Applicants’ submitted backgrounds included public-finance and private-sector accounting experience, municipal-government experience, higher-education finance and banking and compliance roles. Commissioners said they preferred to begin work promptly; no detailed charge or timeline was established at the meeting.
Why it matters: The panel is intended to provide community perspective and technical experience to help the commission review budgets and find savings or funding priorities.
The board also briefly discussed appointing a parliamentarian and later approved Katie Bowers for that role.
