CCAP requests county funding and support to expand rural transit to five days a week

The presenter asked the county to consider a roughly $40,000 annual cost per route for five-day service (about $8,000 per day) and said much of the existing ridership is for medical trips and grocery shopping. CCAP provided commissioners with a breakdown of grant-funded spending for fiscal year July 2023–June 2024 and a comparison through March of the current fiscal year. The presenter requested a letter of support be provided within the next month to support grant or funding applications.
Commissioners and the presenter discussed service geography; the presenter said most trips remain in Fort Scott but service also covers Mapleton and other ZIP-code areas outside the city. Commissioners asked CCAP to provide more granular ridership data (by zip code) and to return with a request after discussions with the city of Fort Scott, which has historically contributed funding for transit. Commissioners raised operating-hour needs for an opioid-recovery rehabilitation provider whose meetings occur evenings and weekends; CCAP said schedule adjustments are possible but would affect cost.
