Bourbon County commissioners voted on June 9 to form a Budget Advisory Board to assist county officials during the upcoming budget season and opened the application period through the next meeting on June 16, 2025.
The advisory board, to be called the Board of Urban County Commissioners Budget Advisory Board, will be governed by bylaws distributed to commissioners. The board is intended to bring additional financial experience—commissioners noted applicants include people with bank and government accounting backgrounds—to review county budget proposals and advise during budget negotiations.
Commissioners said they would accept written letters of interest until the June 16 meeting and then choose a membership number between five and nine depending on how many applicants apply. Commissioner Milburn moved to form the board; the motion was seconded and approved by the commission.
The board’s bylaws were circulated to the commission and to the public at the meeting. Commissioners asked that the opening be advertised in the local paper, on the county website and on social media. The county did not provide a final membership list or an appointment timeline beyond the June 16 application cutoff.
Commissioners said the advisory board would serve through the budget season and be composed of residents with prior accounting and budgeting experience. Specific duties, reporting expectations and whether the board’s recommendations will be advisory only were not detailed at the June 9 meeting.
