The Grant County Fiscal Court approved the second reading of ordinance 0006-2025-0289 on June 17, 2025, revising county building-fee schedules.
The ordinance updates how the county charges for several permit types. Retaining walls taller than 4 feet will be charged under the commercial construction-fee schedule; signage fees will be calculated based on the cost of construction rather than square footage; and the fee for cell-tower antennas was corrected from $2,500 to $250.
County staff said the changes followed consultations with the county building inspector and the county’s assistant accounting attorney, Pete Whaley, and were intended to align fees with construction cost and to correct a numerical error for cell-tower permitting. The court conducted a voice vote on the ordinance during the meeting; the motion passed with all members present voting in favor.
The county did not provide an estimated revenue impact from the ordinance change during the meeting. Officials said the ordinance language was cleaned up as part of ongoing code maintenance and to reflect current inspection and permitting practices.
