For the Liberty Church Road bridge replacement — a project that previously received a grant award — the court opened two bids and voted to accept the lower bidder, which the judge recommended because that bid fell under the grant amount. The court’s vote to award the Liberty Church Road work passed by roll call.
The court also opened bids for repair and widening work on the Montgomery Road bridge. Officials said the Montgomery project will widen the existing narrow crossing to allow farm and other equipment to pass more easily; the court accepted a single bid from a local contractor for $110,618 and approved the award.
County officials discussed funding timing for Montgomery Road work, noting the county’s 80/20 bridge-funding schedule and that part of the project cost will be expended after July when the next program year’s funds become available. The court approved the motion to award the Montgomery Road contract and recorded the votes by roll call.
County staff said the Liberty Church project stays within the grant funding so it was the preferable award to conserve local dollars; Montgomery Road will use one of the county’s bridge allotments and the county will cover any related local-share portion when funds are available.
