Judge: Fords Mill Road bridge beams replaced; county road crews set to install replacement

During his administrative report at the June 3 meeting, Grant County Judge Chuck Dills updated the fiscal court on repairs to the Fords Mill Road bridge.
Dills said the county closed the bridge after state inspection prompted removal of deteriorated beams. "We just got the bridge closed down within the 5 days. It's required by state federal law," Dills said, and county crews demoed the old structure and salvaged the top deck where possible.
He said contractors delivered 12 new beams to the county road barn, where they were primed with zinc primer and were being painted. "They'll be setting the beams in there, putting in with the bolts and the steel plates," Dills said, describing a revised installation method intended to make any future replacement easier than the original concrete-embedded beams.
The county road department will transport the primed beams to the site and complete installation. No formal vote accompanied the update; the report was informational.
