Barberton’s planning, annexation and codes committee on Monday called for legislation to approve several property transactions and to create expedited disposal authority for surplus commercial or industrial properties.
The committee voted to call for legislation rescinding Ordinance 54-20-25 (emergency wording, one reading requested) and to approve sales requested by the parks director: Parcel 0105664 at $1 per square foot and Parcel 015666 at $1, for a combined total price of $2,401, with emergency wording and a single reading requested.
Committee members also called for an ordinance that would allow the city to ‘‘sell, convey, dispose of, or transfer to a third party any commercial or industrial property deemed no longer needed for municipal purposes without the need for competitive bidding,’’ per director Stacy Carr’s request. Committee members said technical sequencing required taking that ordinance first so subsequent sales would be in the correct order.
Separately, Todd Shreve, the director of public service, requested legislation to dispose of city property located in the YGAM building; the committee noted use of city employees and dump trucks in the planned removal and asked staff to coordinate logistics.
All motions in committee were called and approved to refer the items to council with emergency wording and a single reading; no final property transfers occurred during the meeting. Council will consider the ordinances when they are formally introduced.
