Crawford County commissioners were briefed Tuesday on the county's tax-sale backlog and said county staff has requested a proposal from a firm that previously presented on handling tax sales.
County staff reported there are "137 properties that will need to be filed on for a new sale," consisting of 50 properties from 2020 and 87 from 2021, and that combined with prior filings leaves "about 300 properties" in various stages, according to the commissioner's report. The commissioner said an earlier case had 296 properties, of which 125 were redeemed, leaving about 170 unresolved in that matter.
The commissioner's report said an email was sent to the firm that had presented earlier to request a cost proposal for handling the newly eligible properties and possibly addressing older outstanding properties. Commissioners said they will review the firm's proposal when it is returned and the county treasurer's office provided the figures used in the update.
No formal motion to approve procurement or retain a vendor was recorded in the meeting; commissioners said they expect to receive a proposal and then present it for consideration at a future meeting.
