The Fayetteville Historic District Commission received an update at its May 8 meeting that the city will unveil a new historic marker honoring St. John’s on Thursday, June 26 at 2 p.m. The ceremony will be held at the Ramble pavilion (West Avenue side), across from the Walton Arts Center, staff said.
Kylie (historic preservation planner, City of Fayetteville) told commissioners the marker was in production and expected to ship to the city the Monday after the meeting. Kylie said Woodland Manufacturing made a few production tweaks and removed a distracting telephone pole from the photograph used on the marker; the photo credit on the sign will read Sandra Box, Cox Birchfield. Kylie described partner organizations for the unveiling, including NWA Quality, and said members of the St. John’s family plan to attend and share family stories for the city’s historic context files.
Why it matters: Staff said the event and the marker will help document and interpret local history; staff also indicated they would wait for shipping confirmation before broad press distribution. Commissioners were invited to attend and staff asked volunteers to meet at the upper Ramble pavilion on the West Avenue side.
Logistics and partners The unveiling is tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 26 at the upper Ramble pavilion near the Walton Arts Center. City staff said they would confirm shipment of the stainless‑edged marker before issuing a press release. NWA Quality and other community partners are participating in the ceremony.
No formal action was taken on the marker at this meeting.
