The Fayetteville City Council on June 3 approved a resolution allowing the extension of the city's sewer system to 2484 South Dead Horse Mountain Road, authorizing service under the same terms available to new construction inside the city.
Councilmember Burna introduced the item and said the owners of the property requested connection because their parcel is an island of county land surrounded by city limits. "They were requesting to be able to connect to the city water and sewer, in accordance with the new policies that the council set forth earlier this year," Burna said. The item had been reviewed and recommended by the city's water insurer committee, Burna said, with the understanding that the property owners would proceed with annexation.
Jonathan Kurt, Development Services Director, told the council the broader island of county property contains about 19 acres but the parcel in question comprises a smaller portion. Kurt said county zoning currently allows one unit per acre on the island and that additional density would require conditional-use approval from the county quorum court.
Councilmembers asked clarifying questions about the parcel size, existing water access and likely septic use on neighboring lots. The council opened and closed public comment with no speakers for the item.
Councilmember Turk moved to approve the resolution; after a roll-call vote the motion carried unanimously. The resolution, as presented, stated the property owners have agreed to annex as soon as possible as a condition of service delivery.
The council recorded a unanimous vote in favor; no amendments or conditions beyond the annexation commitment were recorded during the June 3 meeting.
