The Fayetteville Advertising & Promotion Commission voted May 19 to accept a two‑year grant from the Tyson Family Foundation to continue operations of the Dickson Street Art Court through June 30, 2027.
Tyler Wilson, vice president of strategic initiatives, said the Art Court — a temporary, immersive public space with artistic and recreational elements including basketball courts at the former Dickson Street Theater site — was initially funded by a 2021 Tyson Family Foundation grant totaling $236,566 over three years and was extended in 2023 through mid‑2025. Wilson told the commission the new two‑year grant will support operations, routine cleaning, maintenance and marketing for the space.
“Staff recommends that the Fayetteville Advertising and Promotion Commission accept the new 2 year grant from the Tyson Family Foundation for continued operations of the Dickson Street Art Court and authorized the interim CEO to execute the grant agreement,” Wilson said.
The commission moved and seconded the recommendation and recorded no opposing votes; the motion passed. Commissioners noted prior event activations at the Art Court, including a Red Ball installation that drawn significant social media engagement in the past year.
Why it matters
Staff framed the grant as aligned with the city’s downtown master plan and Experience Fayetteville’s strategic plan and described the Art Court as a destination that drives cultural activity and downtown economic development.
What’s next
Staff said they will provide hard copies of the most recent Art Court design and continue operations under the new grant; the interim CEO was authorized to execute the agreement.
