Board approves meal price increases, several consent contracts and schedules executive session

The Laramie County School District #1 board approved a package of routine items that included increases to student and adult meal prices for the 2025–26 school year and consented to several contracts and amendments, the board chair said.
Trustees authorized new meal prices that take effect in 2025–26: elementary breakfast to $2.25 (up 75¢), secondary breakfast to $2.20–$2.50 (up 75¢ from $1.75), adult breakfast to $4.25 (up $1.25); elementary lunch to $3.25 (up 50¢), secondary lunch to $3.50 (up 50¢), and adult lunch to $5.50 (up $1.25). The motion to increase meal prices was approved by voice vote.
On the consent agenda, Superintendent Doctor Newton clarified three contracts listed for approval. Item D2.1 renews a not-to-exceed contract with New BOCES to cover services for students with significant behavioral needs, including day treatment in Cheyenne and, when needed, full-time residential placements out of district. Item D2.2 covers the district’s contract with Edgenuity for credit recovery and occasional virtual instruction for students with extenuating circumstances; Newton noted the contract is primarily for credit recovery rather than a shift to virtual schooling. Item D2.4 is an amendment to the district’s concurrent- and dual-enrollment agreement that increases the contract amount to capture bills received late in the year; Newton said the roughly $865,000 figure represents over $700,000 that is exchanged between the district and the college and is effectively cost neutral to the district because of the tuition/teacher arrangements.
Trustees also approved permission for the All City Children’s Chorus to fundraise for a June 2026 trip to New York and Philadelphia and approved administrator contracts and placement on the administrator professional salary schedule for 2025–26.
At the end of the public meeting the board voted to move into executive session prior to adjournment for discussion of possible long-term student suspension or expulsion, personnel matters, legal advice and potential litigation.
