WASHINGTON COUNTY, Texas — The Washington County Commissioner’s Court on June 17 approved hiring a temporary full-time administrative assistant in the Human Resources office to cover workload while an employee departs.
Human Resources staff member Mr. Rudd presented a memo explaining the need and said the timing is uncertain because the office does not yet know exactly how long the temporary position will be required. He told the court that a current employee, identified only as Erin, is scheduled to leave in July.
“I’ll stand for questions if you have any,” Rudd said, before commissioners moved to approve the position. One court member said they had discussed the timeframe with Rudd and were reassured the temporary hire would not be used longer than necessary.
When asked where funds would come from, Rudd said the county had budgeted for a part-time position and had salary contingency funds available; the county auditor had assured him the funds exist. A motion to approve the temporary full-time administrative assistant was made, seconded and carried with the court saying “aye.”
The meeting did not specify the temporary hire’s hourly or annual salary, an exact end date, or the start date. The court did not direct staff to return with a cost estimate, candidate list, or timeline during the meeting.
