Montgomery EDC authorizes city administrator to negotiate purchase of real property

The Montgomery Economic Development Corporation on Monday authorized the city administrator to negotiate on a potential purchase of real property in the City of Montgomery.
The action followed a closed session called “pursuant to the provisions of chapter 551 of the Texas Government Code” under the authority of section 551.072, the board said, during which members deliberated about real property for potential purchase. After the board returned to open session, Board member Casey Olson moved “to authorize the city administrator to negotiate on behalf of the NEDC on the issue of the purchase of real property in the city of Montgomery.” Ryan Lundin seconded the motion, which the board approved by voice vote.
The closed-session citation, Texas Government Code Chapter 551, Section 551.072, allows governmental bodies to meet privately to deliberate real-property transactions. Jeff Angelo said the board would look forward to the city administrator reporting back on negotiations at a future meeting.
Board members did not specify a purchase price, a property address, or a timetable for closing during open session. The board recorded no detailed roll-call vote on the record; the chair announced, “the ayes carry,” after the motion. The board did not make further public statements about the targeted parcel during the meeting.
