The Rowan County Board of Education voted on June 17 to move the July regular meeting from July 15 to July 14 to accommodate Superintendent Rowe’s travel and to schedule the superintendent’s annual evaluation that evening.
Why it matters: the rescheduled date was chosen so the board can complete the superintendent’s evaluation before Rowe’s planned absence; board members were told the meeting will likely run longer than normal to allow time for the evaluation and a closed-session review.
Details and discussion: Superintendent Rowe asked the board if it could change the July meeting date because he expects to be out of town. Rowe said, “I would be gone the fifteenth through the July 20,” and asked whether the board could move the meeting earlier. Board members discussed alternate dates and agreed the 14th would work. The chair noted the evaluation would require additional time and that the board intends to go into closed session for evaluation work and then return to the public meeting to present results.
Board action: A motion by Brad to move the July meeting from July 15 to July 14 was seconded by Brenda and approved by voice vote.
Next steps: The board asked the superintendent to provide evaluation documents in advance so members can review them prior to the rescheduled meeting. The evaluation will be conducted in closed session on July 14, with a public summary presented afterward.
