Parent group urges district to improve communication after in-school incident

“We were left in the dark,” Abby Flack said. “Students were questioned without parental knowledge or consent,” she added, saying parents were not given the guidance or context to help children process the event.
Flack said the lack of communication meant children missed year-end traditions and parents were not able to help students process the experience: “We didn't receive a call. We didn't receive an email. We were left to piece together details from emotional fourth graders.”
Flack said she and a parent group are not asking for confidential details to be shared, but asked for “a commitment to transparency and communication when it comes to what our children actually experience in the classroom.” She urged the board to respond to a letter the group submitted and to involve parents in meaningful dialogue about school culture and responses to difficult moments.
Board members listened during the public-comment period; no formal board action was recorded on the matter during the meeting. The remarks were part of the meeting’s public-comment section, and the issue was presented as a request for greater communication and partnership between families and district staff.
