Weber County Commission approves higher fees at transfer station

The Weber County Commission approved the final reading of ordinance 2025-13 on June 17, raising several fees at the county transfer station.

County staff said the main tipping fee for general waste and construction and demolition waste will increase from $50 to $52.24. "A dollar 57 of that increase is from Republic Services for transportation and disposal costs, and the additional 67¢ is a county increase for personnel and operations increases," said Sean Wilkinson, who presented the ordinance to the commission. The commission also approved raising the fee for mattresses beyond the first two from $5 to $15 and increasing delivery fees for compost and wood products both inside and outside the county.

The changes were advanced as a final reading after Wilkinson reviewed the drivers behind the increases. Commissioner Jim Harvey moved to approve the ordinance "as presented by Mr. Wilkinson today regarding transfer fee fees," and the chair seconded the motion. A roll-call vote recorded "Aye" from Commissioner Harvey and Chair Bullis; the motion carried.

The ordinance was presented as a response to increased third-party disposal and transportation costs and to cover county personnel and operational expenses at the transfer station. The commission did not identify any additional mitigation or phased implementation schedule during the final-reading vote.

Commissioners did not request further amendments during the meeting; no public comments were made on the item at the hearing.

Looking ahead, the new fees take effect under the adopted ordinance; county staff will be responsible for implementing updated fee schedules and receipts at the transfer station.
