Summary
Carolyn Mitke, Waller County tax assessor-collector, presented a contract to collect Brookshire’s taxes for the 2025 tax year and offered local outreach and workshop services; she said the county operates a Brookshire office with drive-through service and will charge $1 per parcel for collection.
Carolyn Mitke, Waller County Tax Assessor-Collector, told the Brookshire City Council the county could collect the city’s 2025 taxes under a proposed contract. Mitke said the county would collect current and delinquent city taxes per the tax code, prepare tax bills if the city transmits adopted rates and related information by September, and distribute monthly remittances to the city.
Mitke said the county has a Brookshire office with drive-through service and staff available to assist the public. She offered to hold workshops for residents — including seniors — to explain exemptions, payment-plan options and where tax dollars go. She told council the fee would be $1 per parcel counted at year-end and that the fee would be deducted from January collections as shown in the monthly report.
Councilors asked about workshops for seniors and confirmed other districts (the water district) were considering the same contract. Mitke told the council she could provide daytime and evening sessions and assist residents with homestead and over‑65 exemptions and payment alternatives under state law.
