Dennis-Yarmouth committee names Station Avenue gym for longtime educator Patricia Ann Watson

The Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School Committee voted unanimously June 16 to dedicate the Station Avenue Elementary School gymnasium in memoriam of former educator Patricia Ann Watson, naming the space the Patricia Ann Watson Gymnasium.

The recommendation was presented to the committee by the superintendent after a smaller petition committee and a public-comment period that began at earlier meetings. A motion to approve the dedication was made and seconded at the June 16 meeting; committee members voted in favor without opposition.

Committee member Miss Landers thanked the petition organizers and those who worked on the proposal, saying, "I just want to thank everyone who worked so hard to put together this proposal and who dedicated so much time to honoring a woman who clearly had a huge impact on all of you and her students." The chair called for vocal aye votes and declared the motion carried.

The action completes a three-meeting process that included an initial presentation of the petition and time for public comment. The superintendent had placed the recommendation on the June 16 agenda; the committee took formal action at that meeting.
