San Juan County commissioners on June 17 approved a right‑of‑way grant with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management that renews access across BLM land to the county landfill (referred to in materials as the Salt Lake Meridian Access Road).
County staff explained that the existing 30‑year right of way had expired and that the renewal extends access through Dec. 1, 2055. The presenter noted the BLM historically waived rent and construction/maintenance fees for the county’s access; the county thanked the BLM for continuing that arrangement in the current grant.
The county said the right of way is essential to landfill operations because it provides the legal access route to the landfill and transfer station area; without it county waste operations would lack authorized access. Commissioners approved the deed/grant by voice vote.
County staff said they will obtain required signatures and complete the administrative steps so the county’s landfill operations may continue without interruption.
