Summary
The council approved Amendment No. 2 to the Legacy Anthropology contract for archaeological oversight at 200 Eleventh Place Corridor, adding $71,020 to cover unexpectedly high artifact recovery; artifacts will be curated at the Stillaguamish Tribe’s Cultural Resource Center.
The Arlington City Council unanimously approved Amendment No. 2 to the Legacy Anthropology contract to provide additional archaeological oversight at the 200 Eleventh Place Corridor project, increasing the contract by $71,020.
Jim Kelly, presenting the item, said crews recovered a larger‑than‑expected number of artifacts while excavating trench lines and three test pits. He estimated the finds exceeded 500 artifacts but said the precise total was not yet known. Under an agreement with the Stillaguamish Tribe, recovered artifacts will be curated at the Stillaguamish Tribe Cultural Resource Center.
Councilmember Jan moved approval; the motion was seconded and carried with all present voting aye. The amendment follows an earlier, no‑cost time extension (Amendment No. 1) and adds funds to cover artifact processing, curation and related work.
Why it matters: The additional funds respond to unanticipated archaeological finds on a city corridor project and formalize curation with the tribal cultural resources center.
Implementation notes: The amendment authorizes the mayor to sign; staff did not record additional conditions in the public discussion.
