Tiffin City Council on June 9 approved an ordinance creating and funding a part-time community service/diversion officer position for the Tiffin Municipal Court.
Council member Hayes introduced ordinance 25-56, which the council suspended rules to pass immediately. Hayes said the position is “for the creation of a part time community service slash diversion officer with the Tiffin Municipal Court” and that funding for the role was already included in the 2025 budget.
The council voted unanimously to suspend the three-reading rule and to adopt the ordinance on emergency passage; the roll call reflected a 7–0 vote to pass the ordinance. The law director noted the statutory authority and internal budget line (part-time wages in the municipal court budget) had been discussed at a committee meeting attended by court representatives, the law director and the city administrator.
Ending: The new part-time position will be funded in 2025 from existing budgeted funds and the city clerk and finance director will coordinate payroll and classification details as part of implementation.
