Lakewood Barnstormers win Dazzle Award for best musical; board recognizes students and staff

Dominic Ferinelli Martinez, assistant director for the Barnstormers, told the Lakewood Board of Education on June 16 that the district’s high-school musical won the Dazzle Award for best musical after competing against roughly 30 other schools.
Martinez, who brought two student cast members to the meeting, described the Dazzles as a Cleveland-area awards program and praised the production team—Carolyn Demanelis, Rayna Brooks, Mike Dandren and Freddie Hill—and the students for intensive rehearsal schedules and pit-orchestra work. He said students rehearsed for up to three months and sometimes three hours nightly, and that many students performed in crew, pit and onstage without breaks.
Board members congratulated the students and production staff and presented recognition at the meeting. The board noted community pride in the performing-arts program and thanked students for their work.
