City staff informed the Livingston City Council on June 17 that the Rite Aid store in Livingston will close as part of the national chain’s ongoing shutdowns. The manager’s office said the closure triggers state notice requirements under SB 1089 and the city has begun outreach to local workforce and potential investors.
City staff said they are working with the Merced County Workforce Investment Board and have contacted prospective investors and brokers to explore redevelopment or lease opportunities for the property. The city manager said the property is actively being marketed by the owner and that possible reuse could include redevelopment depending on interest from buyers or lessees.
Staff framed the work as proactive steps to limit local economic disruption and to find suitable reuses for the store site; no formal redevelopment plan or funding commitment was presented to the council at the meeting.
