Commissioners approve $1.8 million community corrections grant, weekly bills and fuel purchase

The Medina County Board of Commissioners approved multiple finance-related resolutions at its June 17 meeting, including a $1,804,275 community corrections grant for the adult probation department and fund appropriations for a previously authorized felony delinquent care grant.
Brett Thomas of the county finance office told the commissioners the CCA grant would cover the period July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026, and that the county needed to approve a new agreement to accept the funding. "This grant will be in the amount of $1,804,275 for the period of July 1 through June thirtieth of 26," Thomas said. The board approved the resolution by roll call.
Thomas also presented an expenditure adjustment to move sanitary billing department renovation costs from a maintenance line to the sanitary fund structure, and said the county was creating fund appropriations for a felony delinquent care grant that the board had authorized May 20. He reported a low bid to purchase 7,300 gallons of regular unleaded gasoline from Sentara of Ashland at $1.995 per gallon and presented weekly bills totaling $5,425,311.26, which he said were higher than normal because the county was making a semiannual Ohio Water Development Authority (OWDA) loan payment.
A motion to approve the five finance resolutions was made and seconded; roll-call votes showed the commissioners voting in favor. The minutes record unanimous yes votes from Commissioners Sweatick, Hambley and Harrison.
Separately, Denise Testa of planning services presented and the board approved a resolution authorizing submission of the Program Year 2025 Community Housing Impact and Preservation Program (CHIP) application. That resolution was approved by roll call earlier in the meeting.
The board's approvals allow the county to accept grant funding and to proceed with the reported adjustments and purchases; commissioners did not attach additional conditions in the recorded votes.
