The Cornwall Central School District Board of Education approved a proposal June 16 to conduct geotechnical and engineering surveys tied to the district's 2025 capital project.
Facilities staff explained the surveys will inform design and pricing for planned work at the middle school and other sites ahead of a bond referendum. "This is related to the work for the 2025 capital project," a staff member said. The district's architect and engineer (Tetra Tech) managed the RFP process and recommended CT Veil and Associates for the survey and engineering report. Staff noted the work can be segmented so the board can decline the high-school portion if it prefers to limit scope to the middle school.
Several members asked why the board was approving site work before finalizing the full list of projects for the referendum and urged more community conversation. Board member Christian said the facilities committee and broader public should see final project plans well before a vote, and warned that changes such as a new "kiss and ride" road could induce traffic demand if not carefully studied.
Outcome: The resolution to approve the geotechnical survey and report passed. Staff said the survey will provide the district with more accurate pricing for bond planning; the board can later adjust the scope of work used for referendum materials.
