Council approves SPLOST program managers, extends home-repair grant and renews public-art consultant

The Smyrna Mayor and Council on June 16 approved multiple administrative and grant-related contracts: program-management agreements for SPLOST funds, an amendment to the city's CDBG home-repair contract administered by Rebuilding Together Atlanta, and a one-year extension for a public-art consulting contract.

Council approved a proposed agreement with McCrory Engineering for professional program-management services for the 2016 SPLOST at a requested amount of $156,000 for fiscal year 2026 and a separate agreement with Corey Engineering for management of the 2022 SPLOST at $483,000; council members described these as routine renewals for firms that have managed the city's SPLOST programs previously. "They've been managing our SPLOSTs for a long time," one councilmember said.

The council also approved an amendment to the city's CDBG home-repair contract with Rebuilding Together Atlanta to allocate an additional $125,000 to the program, and extended the contract termination date to June 30, 2026. Councilmembers praised the nonprofit's work in Ward 5 and elsewhere.

Separately, the council authorized a one-year extension of the contract with Designing Local LTD for public art consulting services from April 23, 2025 through April 22, 2026, with compensation not to exceed $25,000. The mayor noted that the firm has guided crosswalk art, utility-box painting and other projects across the city.

All items passed by unanimous vote; staff said follow-up procurement and program monitoring will be handled through the appropriate departments.
