Smyrna approves Collier Drive stormwater project and Church Street drainage settlement

The Smyrna Mayor and Council on June 16 approved a contract to construct stormwater improvements at Collier Drive and Memory Lane and accepted a settlement and drainage improvement for Church Street as part of the consent agenda.
City staff presented the Collier Drive project, which was authorized for construction by Dedo Construction Company with a contract value not to exceed $327,655.78 to be funded from the FY26 stormwater fund. Staff said the work responds to stormwater issues affecting four properties along Collier Drive and downstream neighbors; engineering staff were credited for moving the project forward.
The Church Street drainage improvement and settlement were included in the consent agenda (item R): council approved the project and a settlement agreement resolving Collier and Sterling versus the City of Smyrna, conditioned on receiving donated stormwater easements from Village Oaks Homeowners Association, and authorized the mayor to sign related documents.
Resident Brian Sterling, who lives on Church Street, used the citizen-participation portion of the meeting to thank the council and staff for resolving a years-long problem. "We're really thankful that it's finally coming to fruition," Sterling said, and noted the improvement would help properties downstream of the site.
Council members praised public works and engineering staff for responding to storm damage after a recent storm and approved the contract and consent-agenda items by recorded unanimous votes.
