Planning staff told the Woodland Park Planning Commission on June 12 that an updated, restructured version of the city’s land use regulations is nearing completion and will incorporate wireless communication facility standards into the new code.
Staff said the updated draft reorganizes definitions, use-specific regulations and permitting procedures so that wireless communication facility provisions — including design criteria and the existing WCF permit procedures — appear in appropriate sections of the new land use code. The staff presentation noted that section 5.24 (operational standards for wireless facilities) would be incorporated into the restructured regulations.
Commissioners were told the rewrite reflects prior work sessions and the need to clarify definitions and streamline procedure. Staff indicated the draft will be distributed with a three-week review period and that they are considering a briefing work session at the commission’s next meeting to orient members to the new format rather than solicit substantive edits immediately.
Staff said the project has required detailed attention to language and definitions; a final distribution date was not specified in the meeting. The assistant noted the change would move some wireless permitting details into the procedures chapter to distinguish smaller wireless facilities from taller towers subject to special use permit review. Chair Brown and staff confirmed commissioners would receive at least three weeks to review the draft when it is published.
What’s next: staff will send the draft to commissioners (timing to be announced) and may schedule a short work session to provide a guided orientation to the new format prior to formal substantive review.
