City staff reported the official tabulation required by state law (Texas Election Code §67.004) and gave the totals: Dutra Butler received 195 votes (39.47 percent) and Joe M. Self Jr. received 299 votes (60.53 percent). The council moved to adopt the canvas, with a motion by Councilmember Tommy Hebert and a second from Councilmember Harry Thomas. Council approved the resolution by unanimous vote.
Council corrected a clerical term‑end error in the prepared materials; the City Clerk announced the term for the seat will end in May 2029. After the resolution passed, the council chair signed the Secretary of State’s canvas certification and Judge Daniel administered the oath of office. Joe M. Self Jr. was sworn in immediately and received a certificate of election naming him city councilmember for single‑member District 2.
