Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council honors Oldsmar for community preparedness and resiliency

The Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council on behalf of its Future of the Region awards presented the city of Oldsmar with the Community Preparedness and Resiliency award for a partnership called "Together We Stand Community Preparedness and Recovery Partnership." Ren Kral, executive director of the council, gave a presentation explaining the council's role and congratulated Oldsmar for winning against larger municipalities.
Kral described the council's mission to foster regional coordination and listed services available to member governments, including economic development district status, emergency preparedness coordination, environmental and coastal planning, GIS and design visualization, and resiliency planning. She said the council's staff can act "as an extension of your staff" to help smaller jurisdictions access technical services and federal economic development dollars.
The award recognized Oldsmar's "pledge to evacuate" enrollment (signed by nearly 100 homeowners in vulnerable areas) and the formation of the Oldsmar Support Services Alliance, described in the award citation as a partnership of local organizations that structured recovery activities, debris clearance and damage assessment and provided coordinated communications during emergencies.
Kral invited council members and staff to the council's regional resiliency summit and encouraged Oldsmar to consider adopting the council's regional resiliency action plan as a toolbox for local ordinances and comprehensive-plan language.
