Commissioners approve EMS grants and $396,000 equipment appropriation from higher revenue

EMS Chief Eric Morrison told the board the ABC board grant would let the opioid peer‑support team provide supplies and services to people with addictions other than opioid use disorder, which the team regularly encounters in its outreach. The ABC grant application request was approved by consent.
Morrison also presented Budget Amendment No. 51, asking the board to appropriate $396,000 of EMS revenue above budget to buy equipment to improve system preparedness. He said purchases would include stair chairs, additional ZOLL heart monitors and LUCAS mechanical CPR devices to support paramedics and address volunteer shortages. Morrison said the devices allow paramedics to perform other critical interventions while mechanical CPR is in use during extended resuscitation efforts.
Commissioners approved the budget amendment by unanimous consent. Morrison said the revenue increase followed a February fee-structure update intended to align EMS charges with industry standards and that it may take time for collections to reach projected levels.
