San Marino Unified board details public-comment rules, accessibility options

Board President Joseph Chang opened the San Marino Unified School District Board of Education meeting on June 10, 2025, and staff reviewed the district's public-comment procedures and accessibility provisions.

A staff member told the board, “Members of the public may address the board as outlined in the public comment section of the agenda,” and noted the board has adopted Board Policy 9323b to protect the public’s right to be heard. The staff member said the district accepts public comment in three ways: through an online form, by requesting to speak via Zoom, or by submitting a public-comment card in person.

The staff member said online public comments for the June 10 meeting were accepted between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. on the day of the meeting and would be provided to the board but not read aloud at the meeting. The staff member also explained that Zoom attendees would be allowed to request to speak during the meeting; at the start of public comment no one was connected on Zoom and no in-person comment cards were submitted.

Staff advised that people needing disability-related accommodations should contact the assistant to the superintendent at least 48 hours before a scheduled board meeting so the district can make reasonable efforts to provide auxiliary aids or services. The staff member said agenda materials and documents distributed to a majority of the board are available for inspection at the district office, 1665 West Drive, San Marino, and on the district website.

The meeting proceeded to the consent and call-to-order items after the procedural announcement and the absence of remote or in-person public commenters.
