Teen member honored as Boys & Girls Club's 'Youth of the Year' representative at Tooele County meeting

Tooele County commissioners recognized the local Boys & Girls Club and honored teen member Taylor Gorringe on Tuesday for her achievements and for representing the local chapter in regional competition.
Taylor, a member for 11 years, delivered a speech describing how the club provided stability during family trauma and helped her find educational and career direction. "Thanks to some form of luck or miracle, the Boys and Girls Club led me to choose the right place to learn about my future career," Taylor said, describing her acceptance into a street-law class and an internship at Foley & Lardner. She told commissioners the club "helped me grow as a person" and allowed her to finish her speech by saying: "I know that through the endless support my club's provided me, I will proceed with confidence in painting the canvas of my life."
Angela Gorringe, director of the Tooele Boys & Girls Club, told commissioners the local club opened 21 years ago and moved into a new facility at 310 South Main Street in September 2023. She said teen membership has grown more than 40% since the new building opened; club registrations for the school year include 271 members and summer enrollment of 166, with daily attendance figures provided for junior and teen members.
Commissioners praised the club—s services and the member's accomplishments. The commission amended the agenda to add the recognition and presented the family and club staff with a public commendation.
