A school staff member said the district is “about 2 to 3 months into the inspection period” and estimated the land purchase would likely be between $11 million and $12 million, closer to $12 million. The staff member said the district does not yet have funds in the building program (Fund 1989) to cover the full purchase and that design fees for a new high school—if the board decides to move forward—would likely be requested during the coming fiscal year.
“If we’re hoping to open a new high school in the 28‑29 school year, design fees for that new high school would probably be requested during this fiscal year,” the staff member said. Commissioners and staff discussed timing; a school official said requests could arrive as soon as September if the board chooses to proceed.
The committee did not take a formal vote on land purchase or design funding during the meeting. Commissioners were advised to expect budget requests tied to land acquisition and school design during the next budget cycle; no contracts or final approvals were reported at the June 17 meeting.
