Oviedo council approves $1,000 call to artists for Oviedo Arts and Entertainment District logo

The Oviedo City Council on June 16 approved a call to artists and a $1,000 stipend to create a logo for the newly established Oviedo Arts and Entertainment District.

Staff member Mister Kelly told council the Public Arts Board recommended a 30‑day call to artists with a $1,000 stipend. The design requirements in the resolution include a 1:1 square or a vertical 3:2 proportion, initial submission in SVG or PDF with the approved logo provided in vector format, and both full‑color and single‑color versions. The logo must include the name "Oviedo Arts and Entertainment District." "The proposed budget, again, is $1,000 for a stipend for the winning, logo design," Kelly said.

Council debated whether the district name was a misnomer and whether the artist minimum age in the Public Arts Board recommendation should be 21. Kelly noted a local bill signed by the governor on June 6 had named the district "Oviedo Arts And Entertainment District" for licensing and statutory purposes; the council said the name as enacted by the state must remain for official purposes. Council also discussed vendor and printing considerations for one‑color cups that participating establishments might use during events.

The council settled on an 18‑and‑older minimum for artists (the Public Arts Board had proposed 18) after discussion; one council member asked whether the minimum should be raised to 21 and the motion to change it did not carry. Jeff Boddaford moved to approve Resolution 4610‑25; Keith Britton seconded. The roll call vote was unanimous in favor.

The approved call will be open for 30 days, and the Public Arts Board and staff will accept submissions according to the specifications in the adopted resolution. The resolution allocates funding from the Public Arts Board budget to cover the $1,000 stipend.
