Chip Clooney, director of facilities, told the committee the facilities team completed classroom painting, roofing work and other summer renovations, and that several capital projects are in motion or will be put out to bid.
Clooney showed plans for office space at 24 Surfside and said the town-approved security camera project is moving to procurement. "So it's really covers every base," Clooney said of the Mass Buys Expo and vendor outreach he attended with his crew.
He flagged a sharp price increase for mini-split HVAC units: "I will say that the cost of the mini splits last year, we put in 19 for $21,000. This year, we've got 9 going in for $31,000," Clooney said, attributing the jump to tariffs and supply-chain pressures. Committee members asked whether National Grid or other incentive programs had been explored; Clooney said they had not yet but welcomed the suggestion.
Clooney also described schematic work on an asphalt track and a broader renovation concept for Capizzo Stadium, and said the NES vestibule plans are being finalized with new exterior overhangs to create a covered entry area. "We're gonna come off the wall ... and then all the way around and give us enough room for a vestibule lander and an overhang," he said.
Members asked whether tariffs will affect approved FY capital accounts and bids; Clooney agreed that construction bids nationwide have risen and contractors have sometimes rescinded prior prices. The committee did not take formal votes on specific capital contracts at this meeting but received the update for planning and summer work.
