La Porte preservation commission says Indiana Avenue presentation went well, seeks continued resident input

Krista Hurley King, member of the City of La Porte Historic Preservation Commission, said the commission attended a recent presentation on Indiana Avenue and that it "felt like it went really well." The commission discussed the presentation during its June 17 meeting and said most questions raised at the session were answered.
The commission's recap focused on resident engagement as the project moves forward. "I'm hoping that we hear more from the residents of Indiana Avenue kind of as the project goes forward, so that... they know that we're here to be a partner and advocate for them if we can," Hurley King said during the meeting. Members agreed the presentation had been relaxed and that contentious objections had been limited.
Commission members did not take a formal vote on any action related to the Indiana Avenue project. Staff and commission members described the presentation as informational and preparatory: members will monitor follow-up materials and wait for future agenda items that request formal input or recommendations.
The commission noted the Indiana Avenue presentation counts toward its continuing-education responsibilities for the year. No additional requirements or formal directives were recorded at the June 17 meeting.
