Clifton Heights ambulance service operating under new agreement with STAT; one ambulance damaged in crash

The Clifton Heights ambulance service has been operating since May under an agreement between the Clifton Heights Fire Company and STAT Inc., the borough’s solicitor reported at the June 17 meeting. The solicitor said the borough earlier considered loaning $300,000 to the fire company for start-up costs but the fire company elected to proceed on its own and entered a contract with STAT.
Solicitor McLean said the new ambulance venture is up and running but that the primary ambulance was involved in a head-on crash while responding to a call on Garrett Road near the Upper Darby Municipal Building. “Thankfully, there weren't serious injuries,” McLean said; the damaged ambulance is under insurance review and the borough is awaiting the adjuster’s decision on repair or replacement. The solicitors and staff said a backup ambulance is currently in service.
Council members were updated that no borough loan was required and that the current agreement is between the fire company and STAT; the borough continues to provide customary support to the fire company. The solicitor said the arrangement has been revised accordingly and that the ambulance service has been operating since May.
