Greenwood's Parks and Recreation staff won approval June 17 to provide staffing for Our Lady Greenwood's (OLG) before- and after-school program under a one-year agreement, charging OLG $20 per hour for staff time and invoicing the church for hours worked.
Staff said the city will supply employees, perform background checks under city protocols and track hours and participant information in the ProCare software. "We will invoice them the time that we spent in before and after care," said a city staff member explaining the arrangement.
Why it matters: The arrangement lets Greenwood's existing staff operate a nearby program at OLG's facility without the city absorbing programmatic control; staff emphasized that OLG retains responsibility for programming, supplies and snacks while the city supplies vetted staff.
Details and scope: Staff described the program operating out of OLG's South Gymnasium and said the city will also provide staff for summer camp and field-house programs as appropriate. The packet lists the term as one year and staff described the current document as a draft to pilot the partnership for the coming school year.
Participation and logistics: A staff estimate cited roughly "200 to 300" children as a ballpark figure for the school corporation's participants; staff labeled that figure approximate. Staffing ratios will be set to meet program needs and city policy; staff said they will track allergens, medications and parent contact data in ProCare.
Board action: The motion to approve the staffing agreement with Our Lady Greenwood for next school year was moved by Mr. Burton and seconded by Mr. Gaetje; the panel voted in favor and the motion carried.
Next steps: Staff will finalize the one-year agreement and return with any contract edits; the city will bill OLG for hours and monitor the pilot to determine whether to extend or modify the arrangement.
