Clifton Heights council approves second ARPA round, awards $25,000 each to four local organizations

Clifton Heights Borough Council on June 17 approved final distribution of $100,000 from the borough’s ARPA allocation, awarding $25,000 each to the Clifton Heights Italian American Citizens Association, Clifton Heights Polish American Citizens Association, Clifton Heights Fire Department and Clifton Heights Swim Club.
The awards are the borough’s second round of ARPA community grants. Borough officials said ARPA guidance allowed use for community and infrastructure purposes and that the borough has previously used ARPA for equipment and capital needs. Council agreed the grants aim to help local nonprofit organizations maintain facilities and programming.
Solicitor McLean reminded council members to declare any conflicts of interest before voting. Several members recorded abstentions for organizations to which they have affiliations: Councilman Gorman abstained on the Clifton Heights Fire Department portion; Councilwoman Barelli said she would abstain on the Polish American Citizens Association; Councilman Swan and Councilman Baggiole each abstained from votes tied to the Italian American organization. Despite those abstentions, a roll-call vote carried the motion.
Council President Resnick and other members noted staff had reviewed applications and supporting paperwork before issuing checks. Officials said issued checks will be subject to final signature and administrative review before release.
The motion to distribute the funds was moved by Councilman Resnick and seconded; the motion passed by roll call on June 17.
