Council approves $39,956.75 MFT pavement‑marking contract; engineer says recessed markings follow IDOT spec

The Crest Hill City Council on June 16 authorized the mayor to sign contract documents with Marking Specialists Corporation for $39,956.75 to perform the 2025 Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) pavement‑marking program. City Engineer Ron Wiedemann told the council that only one bidder responded this year and that the price was under the engineer’s estimate.
During discussion, a council member asked whether new markings are being recessed to reduce snow‑plow damage. Wiedemann noted this is a revised Illinois Department of Transportation specification and confirmed recessed installation is being used on main lines and certain crosswalk locations. “That’s part of the spec. It’s a revised IDOT spec,” Wiedemann said.
Wiedemann identified the locations covered by the contract, including the Oakland and Gaylord railroad crossing (to maintain the city's quiet zones), Knapp from Weber/Larkin to Theodore, Caton Farm Road (Six Corners to east end of the railroad bridge), Gaylord Pellingfield Road to Birch, and several new crosswalks at McGilvery at Huron, Ontario and Michigan.
The motion to award the contract passed by recorded vote. Council members noted the work supports the city’s quiet‑zone maintenance and pedestrian safety improvements.
