Student advisory committee pushes clearer grading practices, more inclusive clubs and student voice tools

A student advisory committee presentation outlined the group’s annual priorities and findings. The committee — composed of 12 students (four from each WJCC high school), the superintendent or designee, and two school board members — held three meetings this year and focused its work on amplifying student voice around the school environment and grading practices.
Students identified three themes for improving school environment: communication, inclusion, and creativity. They recommended updated websites and student‑driven announcements, more clubs and religious representation opportunities, and a ‘‘house system’’ to build community. On grading, students asked for clearer, more consistent rubrics, timely feedback, and increased use of projects and discussions where appropriate. The committee also conducted a collaborative reflection activity titled "Our Impact and Our Future" and set goals for next year, including expanding club engagement and inclusive practices.
Board members thanked the students for their engagement and encouraged other students to apply for the committee.
