Houston County Commission approves holiday schedule, budget amendments, plats and local infrastructure assistance

At a Houston County Commission meeting, commissioners approved eight agenda items that included a personnel calendar, two budget amendments, approvals and extensions of preliminary plats, a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) resurfacing resolution and requests from the town of Rehoboth for local infrastructure help.

The actions affect county operations, two towns and a local school: the personnel board’s proposed 2026 county holiday schedule was concurred with; a $7,500 budget amendment was approved to cover a replat of DHR property on Brabat Road; and the commission approved a $30,000 amendment to support municipal and recreational improvement projects in the town of Gordon. Commissioners also extended preliminary-plat approval for Flowers Plantation for 12 months and approved the preliminary plat for Martin Farms. The commission passed a resolution supporting an MPO resurfacing project on North Broadway Street from Highway 84 to Main Street and voted to assist the town of Rehoboth with demolition of a restroom/concession building at 5449 County Road 203 and with a drainage deficiency affecting Rehoboth Elementary School and the Rehoboth walking trail.
